Novecento:
Typography Systems Poster Series
This project is a poster design series for the font Novecento utilizing a series of different typography systems: axial, bilateral, dilational, modular, column, radial, and manuscript. We utilized all the variations of the font to showcase the flexibility of its uses for designers as the foundry focuses on the ability to use these variations in tandem or on their own. For each of the Typography systems, we wanted to ensure that the system, while apparent, was secondary to showcasing the font and its capabilities.
Novecento has three different variations: carved, sans, and slab. This font was created by Jan Tonellato, who has been designing fonts since 2011,  from Synthview type foundry based in Paris, France. Synthview is an independent type foundry that is focused on designers' needs, high flexibility, alternates, and fine-tuned variations. This font is of the geometric font family and was inspired by European typography in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It's meant to be optical, balanced, versatile, and contemporary, with a callback to retro feelings. Ideally, this font is for display tacts such as headlines, display fonts, or short phrases. The "carved" variation mimics this with a relief or engraving effect while the "slab" variation is meant to be blocky as though it was carved from concrete.

Novecento is a personal student project.
