Citizen Science Mycology App: UX/UI
Mycology is an app design for a Citizen Science project in mycology, the study of fungi, to further scientific research in the field using user participation to log sightings. This app is utilized by the general public to document fungi populations and growth, participate in scientific campaigns, and report poisonous growth on popular trails.
For design and experience direction, the app needed to be easy to navigate for the general public, provide information that would be needed to identify mushrooms and allow a social aspect via discussion boards. Visually, the app is streamlined for ease of use while still having an appealing color palette that lends to the natural elements of the classic mushroom, amanitas: red, white, pinks, browns, and blacks, and upbeat design elements that visually encourage folks to continue documenting their findings.
